Many species of fish sense the Earth's magnetic field and use it for navigation. We do not know how, but one of the cranial nerves (the trigeminal nerve) seems to be the key anatomical component... at least that's the nerve that delivers those magnetic sensations.
This is a tuna (yellofin) larva. While the magnetic sense is studied in adults, I chose a larva because it's naturally transparent and the nerve visualisation makes more sense. I am also a fan of blackwater photography... Macro scenes in huge digital environemnts are a challenge though!
Full CG scene, including massive ammounts of clouds, magnetic fx, large ocean surface, atmosphere, etc. The animation actually starts on the surface.
